Offered by a private collector, this 2022 Rolex Daytona ref. 116508 is presented with a display box, outer box, warranty card, sleeve, booklets and swing tags. Rolex’s five-year international warranty provides cover until 2027. The vendor advises the watch is in perfect condition and has graded the watch ‘AAA’. The images appear to be consistent with that assessment.

The 40mm Oyster case and bracelet of this reference are crafted from 18K yellow gold, providing plenty of heft and wrist presence. As a nod to the Daytona’s motorsports heritage, a tachymeter scale is engraved into the polished bezel allowing the wearer to measure the average speed of a car over time. The dial is finished in a striking green tone and embellished with applied yellow gold markers and hands, all of which are coated with Chromalight luminescence. The sub-registers are defined by gold chapter rings with red circles inboard providing a subtle splash of colour alongside the “DAYTONA” script. Despite its luxurious specification, the watch has plenty of utility with a screw-down crown and pushers offering 100m of waterproofness.

Housed inside the case is Rolex’s first in-house chronograph movement. The calibre 4130 was introduced in 2000 and has powered the Daytona ever since. It’s equipped with an impressive 72-hour power reserve in addition to being chronometer certified.

The green dial Daytona has become something of a cult watch. Already produced in low quantities, its endorsement by musician John Mayer has piqued collectors’ interest and resulted in a rapid increase in values and desirability.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
