SUMMARY
Popularly known now as the ‘Zenith’ Daytona, this generation marked a major milestone in the model line's history. It was the first self-winding Daytona reference, and Rolex turned to the Zenith El Primero Calibre 400 - widely considered the best self-winding chronograph movement available on the market at the time. The instantly recognisable case silhouette measures 40mm in diameter and is crafted from 18K yellow gold, offering a level of notable opulence and plenty of heft. Attached to the case is a brown leather strap that’s paired with a gold Rolex clasp. A fixed bezel displays an engraved tachymeter scale as a nod to the model’s motorsport heritage. The lacquered white dial features gold sub-dials to display the chronograph and running seconds. On this precious metal example, large yellow-gold Arabic numerals mark the hours.
