- Popularly known as the ‘Zenith’ Daytona, this generation of Rolex’s iconic sports watch marked a major milestone in its history
- Built between 1988 and 2000, it was the first time the Daytona was offered with a self-winding movement
- Rather than develop this in house, Rolex turned to Zenith’s legendary El Primero calibre 400 - widely considered the best self-winding chronograph movement available on the market at the time
- To mark the introduction of this generation of Daytona, Rolex gave its chronograph a facelift to complement the new movement
- While it honoured the design DNA of earlier iterations, the case diameter was increased to 40mm from 37
- Additionally, crown guards were added for the first time, along with a sapphire crystal
- The dial’s sub-registers were given a contrasting outer ring, and the hour markers were now applied indices filled with lume
- This 1991 example is a particularly luxurious version of the ‘Zenith’ Daytona thanks to its yellow gold construction and factory diamond-set dial
- It’s offered by a London-based private collector
- Presented with a Rolex wooden display box, warranty papers, wallet, folder, booklets, calendar card and original credit card receipt dated 1991
- Graded ‘A’ for condition by the vendor who reports the watch to be in good working order
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
