Sell it with usThis 1967 Rolex Daytona ref. 6239 is offered by an established UK-based dealer and presented as a watch-only lot. The vendor advises the watch is in good working order and has graded it ‘A’ for condition. The images appear consistent with that assessment, showing visible marks and scratches commensurate with age. The case and bracelet exhibit signs of refinishing.
The ref. 6239 is where this legendary model began and formed the foundation for the modern versions we see today. Taking on many of the design elements seen on earlier Cosmograph references, the Daytona introduced a tachymeter scale on the bezel, rather than on the dial - highlighting its orientation towards motorsports. The “reverse panda” dial on this example features a matte black finish contrasting against white sub-dials with concentric guilloche. Adding to the 6239’s appeal are the pump-style pushers, which were phased out for screw-down versions on later examples, and offer a more classic aesthetic. The watch is paired to a later-generation Rolex Oyster bracelet.
Housed inside the case is Rolex’s calibre 72B which is based on the Valjoux 72 and modified for increased robustness and reliability. The movement is manually wound and features a column wheel and vertical clutch chronograph complication. The power reserve is rated at 48 hours.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
