KEY FACTS
- Following its release in 1954, the Rolex GMT-Master has a well-earned place as one of sought-after and historic travel watches on the planet
- This ref. 1675 was in production from 1959 to 1980, making it one of the longest-running models in the Geneva Giant’s history
- A 1963 piece, this comes with the highly-sought after gilt dial with 'exclamation point' hour marker at 6 o'clock (unique to this period)
- The 40mm stainless-steel case is paired with Rolex’s iconic blue and red “Pepsi” bezel, with the latter component wearing a characterful patina developed over the years.
- The crown guards are 'pointed', a feature unique to this period
- The bezel features a 24-hour scale, which when referenced against the red GMT hand, allows the wearer to track two time zones simultaneously
- The tritium-filled hour markers and hands add to the watch’s vintage aesthetic, whilst the original hands were replaced during a previous service
- This particular watch has a particularly interesting history, as it was originally purchased via the Royal Navy’s HMS Salisbury NAAFI shop
- Adding to the watch’s military provenance is a hand engraving on the rear case-back, and a relevant newspaper cutting both with the name of the Sailor owner.
- Beneath the screw-down case-back beats Rolex’s in-house developed calibre 1570, an automatic certified chronometer with a 48-hour power reserve
- Offered by a business vendor based in the United Kingdom
- Presented with its original guarantee and chronometer certification papers
- The watch has been paired with an aftermarket blue and red NATO strap; the original bracelet is missing and therefore not included with the lot
- Graded as 'Vintage' by the vendor who reports the watch to be in working order
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
Any watch not covered by a current sales or service warranty should be considered as potentially requiring a service, even if in full working order on the date of purchase.
