- Daytona updates are big news in the watch world, not only as they happen rarely, but because Rolex’s iconic chronograph is among the most in demand watches on the planet
- To tie in with the Daytona’s 60th anniversary, Rolex launched an updated collection earlier this year
- Amongst these was the platinum version, which had originally launched in 2013 as an unofficial 50th anniversary tribute
- It was the first serially produced Daytona in platinum, and has become a sort of hero reference thanks to its hefty precious metal construction, deep brown Cerachrom bezel, and that cool ice blue dial
- This brand new reference carries over these same attributes but introduces some key updates, most notably a sapphire caseback
- This is big news as it’s the first time we’ve ever seen a sapphire caseback on the Daytona, and it’s one of only a few Rolexes to have ever been equipped with such a feature
- On display is Rolex’s calibre 4131, the first new movement to power the Daytona in a staggering 23 years
- It’s handsomely finished with Côtes de Genève across the bridges and a solid gold winding rotor
- Other notable updates include a metal housing to surround the Cerachrom bezel, and a thinning of the sub-dial chapter rings, which add up to give the Daytona a new look and feel
- This lot represents an opportunity to acquire a brand new release of one of Rolex’s hero references
- It’s offered by a UK-based business vendor
- Presented with a Rolex display box, warranty card, booklets and swing tags
- Graded ‘AA’ by the vendor who reports the watch to be in unworn condition and was retailed in November
- Some factory protective stickers are still in place
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
