SUMMARY

Known for its robustness and functionality, the Explorer II was originally designed for ‘spelunking’ or cave exploring, and has become a highly sought-after sports watch within the Rolex catalogue. This latest-generation reference 226570 was announced in April 2021 to tie in with the model’s 50th anniversary. The dial of the Explorer II provides optimum legibility thanks to its large applied hour markers in 18K white gold and proprietary ‘Chromalight’ luminous material. An orange GMT hand, inspired by the original ref. 1655 from 1971, allows the wearer to conveniently track two time zones simultaneously when referenced to the distinctive brushed steel bezel. Technically speaking, this new reference benefits from Rolex’s recently developed calibre 3285. Shared with the GMT-Master II, this movement features a ‘Chronergy’ escapement delivering increased levels of anti-magnetism and a 70-hour power reserve.
