SUMMARY

After a long encore, which included a pandemonium-inducing limited edition with Tiffany & Co., Patek Philippe’s posterchild steel 5711 was finally laid to rest at the end of 2021. Since the discontinuation, collectors and enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the Swiss watchmaker’s next move, and in October, the ref. 5811 was launched. Patek Philippe honoured this new reference by crafting it in solid 18K white gold and introducing some small but welcomed aesthetic and technical upgrades. The size was increased slightly to 41mm and the case construction was updated. In addition, the bracelet’s clasp was given a much-needed revision with a new adjustment system. Internally, the calibre 26-330 SC movement was carried over from the outgoing 5711, and in typical Patek Philippe style, is expertly hand–finished and visible through the sapphire case back.
