SUMMARY
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was launched in 1972 and was a revolution in the world of high-end watchmaking. Designed by Gérald Genta, it was the world's first luxury sports watch to be fashioned entirely from stainless steel and with its 'porthole' bezel, boasted a unique design like no other equivalent watch at the time. In 2022, Audemars Piguet celebrates the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary with the release of new references and some commemorative examples of existing references sporting a ‘50 years’ oscillating weight on the movement.
