Sell your Audemars Piguet on Watch Collecting
History of Audemars Piguet
Audemars Piguet, boasts a rich history dating back to 1875 when Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet established the brand. Their journey began in the Vallée de Joux, a region synonymous with watchmaking excellence.
Audemars Piguet's historical significance is underscored by its pioneering spirit. In 1892, they produced the world's first minute-repeating wristwatch, a testament to their commitment to horological innovation.
The model range is dominated by the brand’s Royal Oak line, which was first introduced in 1972 and designed by Gerald Genta. With its octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet, the Royal Oak remains a symbol of timeless design and is noted for being a pioneer of luxury steel sports watches.
The Royal Oak Offshore series, known for larger cases and sportier aesthetics, has further expanded the brand's appeal. Meanwhile, the Millenary collection, with its unconventional design and artistic flair, showcases Audemars Piguet's innovative approach. More recently, the Royal Oak Concept, characterized by avant-garde designs and high-tech materials, continues to push the boundaries of watchmaking. The brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and innovation continues to captivate watch connoisseurs worldwide.
Audemars Piguet sale highlights
Variations of the Royal Oak form the bulk of Audemars Piguet sold on Watch Collecting to date. Notable examples include a 2022 Perpetual Calendar which calls back to the original Royal Oak – borrowing the iconic “Night Blue, Cloud 50’ shade for its grand tapisserie dial (£81,500).
An extremely limited 2018 AP Royal Oak, with a production run of just 30 pieces, featured a highly unique version of the watch’s signature dial boasting orange hour markers written in Sanskrit (£148,251).
Not quite as exclusive, but nevertheless limited to 250 units, and a true collector’s item for both watch collectors and Marvel fans alike; a 2021 Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon inspired by the Marvel character ‘Black Panther’ takes our record for an Audemars Piguet sale at €240,000. With a dial designed to resemble the mask of the superhero, its standout feature is the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock.
