SUMMARY
While gem-set and diamond-clad releases aren’t anything new for Rolex, the staunchly conservative brand surprised the watch world when it launched the ref. 116558TBR Daytona in 2019. Dubbed “Eye of the Tiger”, the bezel is set with 36 trapeze-cut diamonds, while the lacquered black dial is paved with diamonds in an intricate formation. The Arabic numerals ‘15’, ‘30’, and ‘45’ are made of yellow gold, as is the Rolex coronet, with the remaining hour markers set with diamonds.
Despite the opulent and dressy aesthetic, the watch still offers genuine utility with its screw-down crown and pushers delivering 100m of water resistance. The 40mm case is constructed from 18K yellow gold and accompanied by an ‘Oysterflex’ rubber strap with a gold ‘Oysterlock’ clasp. Housed underneath the screw-down case back is Rolex’s in-house calibre 4130, which features a 72-hour power reserve, Chronometer certification, and is tested after casing to a tolerance of +2 to -2 seconds per day.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
Any watch not covered by a current sales or service warranty should be considered as potentially requiring a service, even if in full working order on the date of purchase.
