SUMMARY
Launched back in 2015 to the surprise of Patek Philippe enthusiasts, the reference 5524 blends the utilitarian looks of a pilot’s watch with Patek Philippe’s clever ‘travel time’ complication. The watch’s design was inspired by some of the company’s pilot watches from the 1930s and is clearly distinguished from other models in the Calatrava line. The case on this reference 5524G-001 is crafted from 18K white gold and measures 42mm in diameter; a size that provides substantial presence on the wrist and faithfully reflects the aesthetics of pilot's watches of the early-to-mid 20th century.
Functioning as a handy travel companion, the case flank incorporates distinctive pushers for adjusting the ‘local time’ hour hand, while simultaneously keeping track of time at home. The dial is designed with legibility in mind thanks to its Arabic numeral indices filled with Super-LumiNova, whilst a radial date display is positioned at 6 o’clock. Turning the watch over, a sapphire case back displays the expertly finished calibre CH 324 S C FUS. Côtes de Genève has been applied to the bridges and yellow gold winding rotor, and the movement has been signed with the Patek Philippe Seal.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
Any watch not covered by a current sales or service warranty should be considered as potentially requiring a service, even if in full working order on the date of purchase.
