Sell it with usOffered by a private vendor, this 2020 Rolex Explorer ref. 214270 is presented with its display box, outer box, warranty card, sleeve, booklet and swing tag. Rolex’s five-year international warranty covers this example until 2025. The vendor advises the watch has never been worn and stored in the box after purchase - grading it ‘AA’ for condition. The images appear consistent with that assessment, showing no marks or scratches on the case and bracelet.
This historically significant reference was the first generation Explorer to feature a substantially larger 39mm case. Despite the beefed-up dimensions, it maintains the same design ethos as historical models, including a highly legible black dial with a tri-Arabic layout. These 3, 6, and 9 numeral markers were revised as part of Rolex’s mid-cycle refresh of the 214270 and have a luminous coating to offer superior legibility to the wearer. Also updated were the hands, which were made longer and wider after some criticism from the collecting community of those on earlier examples.
The watch is paired with a satin-finished Oyster bracelet which offers tool-free adjustment through the clasp’s Easylink extension. Housed inside the 100m waterproof case is the robust and reliable 3132, which is chronometer-certified and equipped with a 48-hour power reserve.
With Rolex releasing a new Explorer in 2021 in the more traditional 36mm, this larger size is now confined to the history books. This lot represents an opportunity for collectors to acquire this sought-after reference that we may never see in these dimensions again.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
