Originally developed as a robust diver's watch, the Submariner is now a classic icon of style and arguably the most famous watch in the world. The 116610LN is the most contemporary advancement of the original model introduced in 1953. The first variant of the Rolex Submariner had a corrosion-resistant stainless steel bracelet and was equipped with the waterproof Oyster case. With a diving depth of up to 100 metres, it was a sensation at the time.

The Oyster case is a key element of modern Rolex watches. Like an oyster shell, it reliably protects the movement from external influences. The Oyster case passed its first endurance test in 1927, when the sportswoman Mercedes Gleitze swam through the English Channel with it. For ten hours, the Rolex Oyster case withstood extreme weather conditions and survived this sporting endeavour in full working order. This laid the foundation for Rolex’s further pioneering work on water.

The new Oyster model's waterproof housing withstands depths of up to 300 metres and looks good even in extreme situations while meeting the new demands of diving. The luminescent hands and indices guarantee optimum visibility for up to eight hours, even in poor lighting conditions. The Submariner models have been equipped with a scratch-resistant Cerachrom bezel with platinum graduations since 2008.

Despite its origin in diving, the Rolex Submariner 116610LN is also an ideal companion in everyday life. The robust Oyster case with a diameter of 40 mm is not too flashy and yet striking enough to make a statement.
