In a rare move for Rolex, they directly drew on their past by incorporating the orange 24-hour hand from the original 1970s ref. 1655. Everything else was beefed up, including a 42mm case and a ‘maxi-dial’ with larger hands and indices. The watch we see here is the ‘Polar’ Explorer II. This dial configuration has become increasingly popular as an alternative to the myriad of black dial sports watches. It’s also unique as the only white dial Rolex sports watch with a date. In addition to the aesthetic updates, a new movement was introduced exclusively for the reference 216570. The calibre 3187 offers all of Rolex’s latest technology, including the proprietary ‘Paraflex’ shock protection system and an anti-magnetic ‘Parachrom’ hair-spring. It also has a 48-hour power reserve, Chronometer certification, and is tested after casing to a tolerance of +2 to -2 seconds per day. Attached to the case is an Oyster bracelet with an ‘Easylink’ extension built into the clasp - giving the wearer 5mm of tool-free adjustment. This 2019 example is presented with its box, warranty card, sleeve and booklet. Its condition is within the bounds of the seller’s A grading. Rolex’s international warranty provides cover until 2024.
