Sell it with usOffered by a UK-based dealer, this 2016 Rolex Daytona ref. 116520 is presented with its display box, outer box, warranty card, sleeve, booklets and bezel protector. The watch shows some light signs of wear on the case and bracelet and its condition appears to be consistent with the vendor’s ‘A’ grading for condition.
The instantly recognisable case of Rolex’s iconic motorsport-inspired watch measures 40mm in diameter, and on this sought-after reference is finished in stainless steel. Its ergonomic design and versatile size are perfectly suited to a range of wrist sizes. The polished steel bezel is engraved with a tachymeter scale - a nod to the Daytona’s racing heritage. This example features a white dial, offering a refreshing alternative to the myriad of black-dialled Rolex sports watches. Silver sub-registers display running seconds and chronograph timing, while the red ‘DAYTONA’ script curved around the register at 6 o’clock provides a subtle hint of colour.
Housed inside the case is Rolex’s first in-house chronograph movement. The calibre 4130 was introduced in 2000 and has powered the Daytona ever since. It’s equipped with an impressive 72-hour power reserve in addition to being chronometer certified. A screw-down crown and pushers afford 100m of waterproofness and further add to its versatility.
The Daytona ref. 116520 has an interesting provenance, being among the first generation to have an in-house movement and the last to have a steel bezel. Since it was replaced in 2016 with a new version sporting Rolex’s Cerachrom bezel, this reference has steadily climbed in value as collectors have come to appreciate its classic and timeless styling.
