Offered by a private collector, this Rolex Daytona ref. 116520 was purchased new by the vendor directly from Rolex in 2015. It's accompanied by the display box, outer box, warranty card, original bill of sale, sleeve, booklets, bezel protector and Rolex pouch. The watch was serviced in October 2020 by the Rolex Service Centre and an international service guarantee card is provided. The vendor advises its in perfect working order with service stickers in place and its condition appears to be within the bounds of their ‘AA’ grading.

The case is presented in stainless steel and measures 40mm in diameter, offering versatile and ergonomic dimensions for a range of wrist sizes. The Oyster bracelet with polished centre links complements the Daytona’s sporty appearance.

This example features a white dial, presenting a refreshing alternative to the ubiquitous black dialled Rolex sports watches. Silver sub-registers display running seconds and chronograph timing, while the ‘DAYTONA’ script provides a subtle hint of colour. White gold hands and markers are filled with Super-LumiNova and provide superior legibility in all lighting conditions.

Housed underneath the screw-down case back is the tried and tested calibre 4130. Introduced in 2000 as Rolex’s first in-house chronograph, the movement has a 72-hour power reserve and is Chronometer certified.

The Daytona ref. 116520 has an interesting provenance, being among the first generation to have an in-house movement and the last to have a steel bezel. Since it was replaced in 2016 with a new version sporting Rolex’s Cerachrom bezel, this reference has steadily climbed in value as collectors have come to appreciate its classic and timeless styling.
