Sell it with usOffered by a private collector, this Rolex Daytona ref. 116520 is presented with its display box, outer box, Rolex Service Centre card dated 3 May 2018, travel pouch, booklets, cloth, spare link and swing tag. The watch shows some visible marks and scratches across the case, bezel and bracelet commensurate with regular wear, and its condition appears to be within the bounds of the vendor’s ‘A’ grading.
This instantly recognisable case measures 40mm in diameter and is finished in stainless steel. Its curved lugs and thin profile make it versatile and ergonomic on a range of wrist sizes. The attached Oyster bracelet is also finished in steel with polished centre links.
This example features a white dial, offering a refreshing alternative to the ubiquitous black dialled Rolex sports watches. Silver sub-registers display running seconds and chronograph timing, while the red ‘DAYTONA’ script provides a subtle hint of colour. White gold hands and markers are filled with Super-LumiNova and provide superior legibility in all lighting conditions. Housed underneath the screw-down case back is the calibre 4130. Introduced in 2000 as Rolex’s first in-house chronograph, the movement has a 72-hour power reserve and is Chronometer certified.
The Daytona ref. 116520 has an interesting provenance, being among the first generation to have an in-house movement and the last to have a steel bezel. Since it was replaced in 2016 with a new version sporting Rolex’s Cerachrom bezel, this reference has steadily climbed in value as collectors have come to appreciate its classic and timeless styling.
