Also included is a Rolex Service Centre guarantee card relating to a service carried out in 2021. The vendor advises the watch is in good working order and has graded it ‘A’ for condition. The images appear consistent with that assessment, showing only light signs of wear and a service sticker on the case back.
The instantly recognisable case of the Daytona ref. 116520 measures 40mm in diameter and Its ergonomic design is suited to a range of wrist sizes. Paired with an Oyster bracelet, and featuring a tachymeter scale on the bezel, the watch maintains a distinctly sporty character. The dial is gloss black with applique white gold indices and hands, all of which are coated with Super-LumiNova to provide superior legibility to the wearer. Curved around the sub-dial at 6 o’clock, the red “DAYTONA” script adds a touch of colour.
Powering the watch is Rolex’s first in-house chronograph movement. The calibre 4130 was introduced in 2000 and is equipped with an impressive 72-hour power reserve in addition to being chronometer certified.
The Daytona ref. 116520 has an interesting provenance, being among the first generation to have an in-house movement and the last to have a steel bezel. Since it was replaced in 2016 with a new version sporting Rolex’s Cerachrom bezel, this reference has steadily climbed in value as collectors have come to appreciate its classic and timeless styling.
