This one-owner Rolex Daytona ref. 116520 was purchased new by the vendor from a UK-based authorised dealer in 2010. As a full set example, it’s accompanied by the display box, outer box, warranty card, sleeve, original purchase receipt, booklets and swing tags. The vendor advises the watch has been worn sparingly with some light marks and swirls visible on the case and bracelet. Its overall condition appears consistent with their ‘A’ grading.

The instantly recognisable case measures 40mm in diameter and is finished in stainless steel. Its ergonomic design and versatile size are suited to a range of wrist sizes. The polished steel bezel is engraved with a tachymeter scale - a nod to the Daytona’s motorsport heritage. This example features a white dial, offering a refreshing alternative to the myriad of black-dialled Rolex sports watches. Silver sub-registers display running seconds and chronograph timing, while the red ‘DAYTONA’ script provides a subtle hint of colour.

Powering the watch is Rolex’s first in-house chronograph movement. The calibre 4130 was introduced in 2000 and is equipped with an impressive 72-hour power reserve in addition to being chronometer certified. The watch is secured to the wrist via an Oyster bracelet in stainless steel with polished centre links.

The Daytona ref. 116520 has an interesting provenance, being among the first generation to have an in-house movement and the last to have a steel bezel. Since it was replaced in 2016 with a new version sporting Rolex’s Cerachrom bezel, this reference has steadily climbed in value as collectors have come to appreciate its classic and timeless styling.
