SUMMARY
One of the all-time greats of modern watchmaking, the Omega Speedmaster shot to prominence after it was worn by the NASA astronauts who made the 1969 moon landing. The ‘Speedy’ has since been associated with space travel and exploration. The 2010 'Apollo Soyuz' edition celebrates the 35th anniversary of astronaut Thomas P. Stafford of the United States, and his Soviet counterpart, cosmonaut Leonid Leonov, shaking hands in space in 1975. The occasion is marked by their names and that of their respective ships on the watch’s rear casing. The 'Apollo Soyuz' also represents a unique footnote in the history of the iconic "Speedy". The dial and its subdials are forged from meteorite, meaning no two versions of this watch are the same. To add to the reference’s uniqueness, it was also the first Speedmaster to wear a meteorite dial and is one of just 1975 pieces produced.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
