ABOUT THIS WATCH
- The Omega Speedmaster Professional 'Alaska Project' is a limited-edition model, paying tribute to a unique collaboration between Omega and NASA during the Apollo space missions of the late 1960s
- Released in 2008 with only 1,970 pieces, this reference pays homage to Omega's involvement in space exploration, particularly the goal of creating a watch that could endure the extreme conditions of outer space
- To address the extreme temperature variations in space, the watch was designed with a temperature-resistant red anodised aluminium outer case, or 'exoskeleton' which can withstand temperatures ranging from -148°C to over 260°C
- Beneath the casing lies the classic 42mm Speedmaster design, featuring a white dial, uncommon in this model line
- The contrast of the white face with the black hands and red chronograph accents gives it a distinctive, sporty aesthetic
- The watch also comes with additional white Velcro straps, originally designed for astronaut use, alongside the standard stainless steel bracelet
- Powered by the manual-winding Omega caliber 1861, a Lemania-based movement with a 48-hour power reserve
- Despite NASA not realising the intended mission, the 'Alaska Project' remains a testament to Omega's technical innovation and its enduring connection to space exploration
