Sell it with usThe Rolex Submariner 16610LV, or “Kermit”, was first released in 2003 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the world’s most recognised dive watch. Several changes over the regular Submariner were introduced to mark this special model, not least the striking green aluminium bezel insert – a tribute to Rolex’s corporate colour and a symbol of the brand. The other key differentiator was the “maxi-dial”, further improving legibility and giving a subtle nod to the design of early Submariners.
The watch benefits from all the regular features that have made the Submariner such a rugged and dependable tool. The 40mm Oyster case and bracelet are made from corrosion-resistant 904L stainless steel, and the trip-lock crown affords the watch 300 metres of waterproofness.
Rolex is known for making small changes and revisions to its watches over their lifespan, and the “Kermit” is no exception. The dial and bezel were subject to no less than six and five variations, respectively. We also saw the introduction of the engraved rehaut in 2008, as seen in this example.
Already a nuanced reference, this particular watch distinguishes itself further with its Khanjar engraving on the caseback. Watches that feature the royal crest of the Omani state were ordered specially by the late ruler Qaboos bin Said and are considered particularly collectable. According to the warranty card the watch was supplied by Khimji Ramdas LLC, the oldest official distributors of Rolex in Oman. Mr. Gokaldas Khimji brought Rolex to Oman in the early 60s via the Port of Aden in South Yemen. Starting from a single showroom to eventually become suppliers to Omani Royaly.
This 2008 example is presented in good condition with some blemishes visible on the bezel insert and minor signs of wear showing on the case and bracelet. Also included in the sale are the box, guarantee, booklet, and swing tag.
