Sell it with usThe Royal Oak was originally designed in 1971 by Gerald Genta at the request of Georges Golay, then general manager of Audemars Piguet. It shook up the world of luxury watchmaking, taking collectors by surprise with its innovative and instantly recognisable octagonal bezel. It remains one of the true icons of watchmaking and arguably the model that made AP the superbrand that it is today. Whilst the Royal Oak has undergone a number of iterations since launch it is one of those watches that remains true to its designer’s original vision.
This reference, the mid-size 14800SA, was the first Royal Oak to be released on a leather strap rather than a steel bracelet. At 36mm its versatile and very wearable proportions appeal to modern and vintage watch lovers alike.
Presented in steel and yellow gold with a white ‘tapiserrie’ dial, gold baton hands and indices, this example from 2007 is powered by an automatic movement, calibre 2225 - rare for this model. The leather strap features a steel AP-signed folding clasp.
