Sell it with usConceived by legendary watch designer Gerald Genta in 1972, the Royal Oak was a pioneer for luxury stainless steel sports watches. Its instantly recognisable angular shape has become iconic in the world of Swiss watchmaking.
Produced as a ‘Boutique-only’, special edition, this Dual Time model from 2006 marries the Royal Oak design with a practical complication. A second time zone can be tracked simultaneously through the sub-dial at 6 o’clock. The calibre 939 features a 43-hour power reserve, a free-sprung balance, and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour.
The dial integrates several finishing techniques, most notably the “tapisserie” pattern, which has become synonymous with the Royal Oak. Smooth recessed sub-dials display the second time zone, date, and power reserve. Luminous material is applied to the markers and hands, further aiding legibility, and adding to the watch’s sporty feel.
One of the most traditionally proportioned, and wearable variants of the Royal Oak, the Dual Time’s 39mm octagonal case and tapered bracelet are expertly finished with a blend of polished and brushed surfaces. A fine bevel extends from the mid-case and flows through the lugs and down the bracelet’s edge, highlighting the watch’s seamless construction. Hexagonal screws on the bezel hint at the maritime inspiration and complete the look.
The watch is presented in excellent condition, with only minor signs of wear on the bezel and clasp. The box, guarantee and user manual are supplied with the sale. The undated papers show an error in the model number, with the first two digits being back to front, which Audemars Piguet can rectify if the purchaser desires.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
