KEY FACTS

  • The GMT-Master II has a well earned place among the most desirable modern sports watches
  • Introduced in 1989, the reference 16710 enjoyed a production run of almost 20 years until it was phased out in 2007
  • It is considered the last classically proportioned GMT-Master II thanks its more refined and wearable 40mm case compared to more contemporary references
  • It was also the last to have an aluminium bezel insert; successive references were fitted with the visually-bolder ceramic ‘Cerachrom’ unit used to-date
  • This turn of the century 2000 example is paired with an all-black bezel insert, offering a level of versatility not seen in the bi-colour alternatives seen on other GMTs
  • Beneath the screw-down rear casing beats Rolex’s calibre 3185, a chronometer-certified movement with a 48-hour power reserve and a GMT function
  • The screw-down crown and Oyster case affords the watch with 100 metres of water resistance
  • The watch is paired with a satin finished Oyster bracelet
  • Offered by a UK-based private seller
  • The watch is presented with a Rolex display box, guarantee papers, booklet, swing tags and a Rolex Service Centre receipt pertaining to a service undertaken in 2009
  • The vendor states that the watch was also serviced by an independent watchmaker in 2016 and 2019
  • The vendor also notes they are the second owner and purchased the watch in 2005
  • Three spare links are also included where the bracelet has been sized
  • Graded ‘B’ for condition by the vendor who reports the watch to be in good working order

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.

Any watch not covered by a current sales or service warranty should be considered as potentially requiring a service, even if in full working order on the date of purchase.

The description of this consignment is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Watch Collecting requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence. However, potential buyers must satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description, and conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to bid or buy.
