Sell it with usOffered by a private collector, this 1998 Rolex GMT-Master ref. 16700 is presented with its display box, outer box, warranty papers, sleeve, booklets and two spare bezel inserts (black and red & black). Also included is an Oyster bracelet in addition to the Jubilee already fitted. The vendor advises the watch is in good working order and has graded it ‘A’ for condition. The images appear consistent with that assessment.
Produced from 1988 to 1999, the ref. 16700 represents the last generation of the original GMT-Master line that debuted all the way back in 1954. A truly iconic model in Rolex’s catalogue, the instantly recognisable 40mm case has a bi-directional rotating bezel with a “Pepsi” bi-colour insert that’s become synonymous with the line. The dial is finished in lacquered black with a magnified date aperture at 3 o’clock and a red GMT hand. The white gold markers are filled with tritium, as signified by the “T<25” below 6 o’clock, which will develop a charming patina over time.
Internally, the watch is powered by the in-house calibre 3175. Only ever used on this reference, the movement is chronometer-certified and has a 48-hour power reserve. In addition, it incorporates a quick-set date which is a convenient feature not found in newer generations of GMT-Master IIs. This example is paired with a Jubilee bracelet, with a spare Oyster bracelet included as part of the lot.
