Own a similar Audemars Piguet?
Sell it with usAuctioned via a private collector, this 1991 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ref. 14700ST comes presented with its original octagonal-shaped display box and outer sleeve, information booklet, and an extract from the AP archives certifying the watch’s legitimacy - it is worth noting, however, that this document does not serve as the guarantee or warranty. Now in its third decade, the watch shows some light marks and scratches on the case and bracelet, in addition to a small blemish on the bezel around 11 o’clock. The vendor has graded it ‘A’ for condition and the images appear consistent with that assessment.
Believed to have been in production for just one year, this transitional reference maintains the vintage design cues of earlier iterations such as the smaller Audemars Piguet script on the dial and unsigned crown. It’s also sized in the more traditional 36mm dimensions, however, its thinner bezel and subsequently larger dial mean it wears larger than other references with the same diameter.
Instantly recognisable as a Royal Oak with its octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet, this reference retains the more traditional “Petite Tapisserie” pattern on the dial, as seen in references that preceded it. In this particular example, the “tropical” dial has developed a characterful patina.
Housed inside the case is the ultra-thin AP calibre 2225. This self-winding mechanical movement is based on Jaeger-LeCoultre’s calibre 889.
Given its brief production run, the 14700 is a rare and desirable variant of the iconic Royal Oak series. This lot represents a rare opportunity to acquire this sought-after reference.
