RolexGMT Master II

Launched in 1982, the ref. 16760 is historically significant for introducing a plethora of updates that catapulted the GMT-Master into the modern age. It’s the first time a red and black “Coke” bezel insert was made available - a colour combination now synonymous with the model line. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal replaced the outgoing plexiglass, through which the lacquered black dial and white gold hands and markers could be viewed. Key changes weren’t just limited to the watch’s exterior, with Rolex introducing its first movement with true dual-time functionality. To fit this new calibre 3085, the case was made slightly thicker, earning it the title of the “Fat Lady” by the collecting community.

This particular example, dating to 1988, is among the last examples of this reference. Specified on a Jubilee bracelet, it shows some marks to the case, bezel insert and bracelet commensurate with age. Its overall condition is within the bounds of the seller’s A grading. This highly collectable watch is being sold as a full-set with its box, guarantee papers, calendar card, booklets and swing tag.
