Sell it with usOffered by a UK-based dealer, this Rolex Submariner reference 16803, originally retailed in 1987, is accompanied by its box, warranty papers and sleeve. The watch was serviced by an independent watchmaker in October 2021, with a 12-month guarantee period, and the receipt card for this is included. The watch shows signs of wear commensurate with age and its condition is within the bounds of the seller’s A grading. The ‘SWISS MADE’ designation on the dial indicates a Super-Luminova dial, suggesting it was replaced at service at some stage.
The case measures 40mm in diameter and is constructed from stainless steel. 18K yellow gold has been used for the rotating dive bezel, crown and the Oyster bracelet’s centre links. Also in precious metal are the hour markers and hands which are complemented by the gold-tone script on the dial - giving a warm and characterful appearance. The watch is rated to 300m of waterproofness, which was tested at service. Housed underneath the screw-down case back is the calibre 3035. This tried and tested movement is chronometer-certified and equipped with a 48-hour power reserve.
The ref. 16803 is a historically significant reference being the first time Rolex offered the Submariner in two-tone. While collectors and enthusiasts are accustomed to seeing bi-metal options across the Rolex catalogue, the world’s most recognisable dive watch wasn't given the steel and gold treatment until 1984.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
