ABOUT THIS WATCH
- Manufactured from 1962 to 1989, the 5513 is among the longest continually produced watch references in Rolex’s celebrated history
- It was sold alongside the ref. 5512, the main difference being the lack of Chronometer certification
- Cosmetically, the ‘two line’ dial has a cleaner and more symmetrical look without the additional text and is appreciated by collectors
- While many changes and updates were implemented over the staggering 27 years of production, the last examples provide a nice mix of vintage and modern design cues - forming a bridge between old and new
- Some of the more significant updates, which can still be seen on contemporary models, are the gloss black dial and white gold surrounds on the hour markers
- This particular example features many unique details beloved by collectors: a spider dial, ghost bezel and creamy aged hour markers and handset
- A manufacturing defect caused the gloss black dial to crack over time, resulting in this spider web-like effect
- Likewise, the once black bezel faded to a light grey
- The markers and handset developed a characterful even patina where the tritium has faded over time
- Looking inside the case, the watch is powered by the tried and tested workhouse calibre 1520, which has automatic winding and a 48-hour power reserve
- Attached to the watch is a satin-finished Oyster bracelet
