SUMMARY
Known as a transitional reference, the 16758 GMT-Master was first introduced in 1980 and was only in production for a short period of around seven years. Following a 20-year run of the reference 1675, several modern upgrades were implemented, making this model an interesting blend of vintage and modern elements.
In terms of technical enhancements, a new movement was introduced. The calibre 3075 saw an increased beat rate to 28,800 vibrations per hour - in line with modern standards and commonly seen in movements today. Water resistance was also increased from 50 to 100 metres giving the watch more utility. Most usually seen in stainless steel, yellow gold versions were produced in much lower quantities. This example features a black ‘nipple’ dial, so named because of the ratio of luminous material on the hour markers compared to the precious metal creating a resemblance to a nipple.
