KEY FACTS

  • Manufactured from 1962 to 1989, the 5513 is amongst the longest continually-produced watch references in Rolex’s celebrated history
  • Widely praised for its simple aesthetic, the 5513 was the last ‘no-date’ Submariner to be offered with an acrylic crystal and a matte dial
  • Designed to be a more accessible no-nonsense version of Rolex’s iconic dive watch, the 5513 is driven by the non-chronometer certified calibre 1520; a self-winding movement with a 48-hour power reserve
  • The absence of the ‘Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified’ script on the dial affords the 5513 with a cleaner, ‘two-line’ appearance
  • With such a long production period, the 5513 went through a number of subtle changes and variations over its lifespan
  • This example, which retailed in 1981, has a dial defined by its matte finish, ‘feet first’ depth rating, wide-based coronet shape, ‘open sixes’ and heavy serif on the letter ‘L’ in Rolex
  • What remains consistent across all of the 5513 examples is a the waterproofness, which is rated at 200 metres (not currently tested)
  • The watch is offered by a private collector located in Hong Kong
  • It’s presented with the original warranty papers
  • Graded ‘B’ for condition with the vendor who advises the watch is in good working order
  • The tritium in the hands and hour markers has faded to a characterful patina
  • This example is paired with an Oyster bracelet stamped 93150 with 580 end-links

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.

Any watch not covered by a current sales or service warranty should be considered as potentially requiring a service, even if in full working order on the date of purchase.

The description of this consignment is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading.
