This 1978 Rolex Day-Date is being offered by a private vendor as a watch-only lot. The watch shows some clear signs of wear commensurate with age. The case displays some softening on the edges, indicating some refinishing and the bracelet links are significantly stretched. The condition of the dial and hands is good. The watch’s overall condition appears to be within the bounds of the vendor’s ‘A’ grading.

This reference 18038, which dates to 1978, measures a classically sized 36mm and is finished in solid yellow gold. The champagne dial is complemented by factory-set diamond hour markers, which provide an additional level of luxury. Housed underneath the screw-down case back is a chronometer-certified in-house movement delivering a 48-hour power reserve. Attached to the case is a three-link President bracelet, which is available almost exclusively on the Day-Date.

The Rolex Day-Date was first launched in 1956 and was the world's first chronometer wristwatch that could display the day and date through windows in its dial. Since then, it's become synonymous with luxury as a flagship model in Rolex's catalogue.
