ABOUT THIS WATCH
- For many Rolex collectors, provenance is a key component of a watch’s desirability, especially when it comes to use in the field
- This rare Submariner ref. 5513 from 1973 has an intriguing history, being used by the 13th Special Operations Command of the Hellenic Coast Guard
- The watch is supported by the sales contract, in Greek, between the Hellenic Army Supreme Military Support Command and the buyer of three Rolex Submariners, including this example
- The ref. 5513 is an interesting watch within the Submariner model line, being among the longest continually produced series in Rolex’s history
- This generation, produced between 1969 and 1982 is considered to be the last true vintage no-date Submariner with its maxi plots and ‘feet first’ matte dial
- This particular example shows a characterful even patina on the markers and hands where the tritium has faded over time, and the vendor advises the dial is original and in excellent condition
- They also confirm the case is in excellent condition, showing some marks and scratches commensurate with age, and the calibre 1520 movement is running, however, timekeeping has not been tested
- The bracelet is stamped ‘9315’, correctly matching the information provided by Rolex in its report
