Introduced in 1967, the 1665 Seadweller was Rolex’s answer to the needs of ‘saturation’ divers who would spend extended periods in helium-rich habitats. The fitting of a one-way helium release valve prevented the crystal being blown off during decompression.

The earliest models used a slim case, similar to the Submariner, with a higher bezel to accommodate the thicker crystal, within a year a thicker case was introduced which used a standard height bezel.

The Seadweller was not a strong seller on launch as it lacked the date magnifier and the added water resistance was not an everyday advantage, this makes these early slim-case examples particularly rare. The Seadweller is powered by the 26 jewel Rolex calibre 1570.

This watch is offered in overall good condition without box or papers. The original ‘double red’ dial has been replaced at service with a Mk1 ‘Great White’ which is in good condition with an evenly developed patina to the tritium lume plots.

The case back is a service replacement. The hands are in good condition with even colouration. The plexi-glass crystal has light scratches. The case is in good condition without signs of heavy polishing.

The watch is fitted to a later ‘heavy’ Oyster bracelet numbered 93150 with 580 end-links and a flip-lock clasp stamped VB indicating a date circa. 1977. The bracelet is in good condition with marks and tarnish commensurate with age.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
