RolexOyster Perpetual

In the 1930s, Rolex began fitting their watches with automatic movements. To incorporate the thicker self-winding calibres, rounded case backs were fitted. This design and unique shape led to the watches becoming affectionately known as “Bubble Backs”.

These references pre-date many of Rolex’s better-known models but represent an important part of the company’s history when they began to refine their movements. These perpetual calibres created the foundation of how Rolex’s are made to this day.

This particular example is a ref. 5010 and its production dates to 1949. A gold bezel provides a luxurious touch to the stainless steel Oyster case and perfectly complements the ecru coloured dial which has developed a beautiful patina over time. Dauphine hands and applied trapezoidal indices add the finishing touch to this classically styled watch. A vintage-style brown leather strap accompanies the watch and perfectly suits the look.

The watch shows wear on the case commensurate with age and its condition is within the bounds of the seller’s B grading. The watch is being sold by an established dealer and has just returned from service for peace of mind. No box or papers are supplied.
