This 1938 Rolex Oyster ref. 1072 is being offered by an established UK-based watch dealer and is supplied with a 12-month guarantee, a Watch Register certificate and a box. Signs of wear are visible on the case, bezel and dial commensurate with age and the watch’s condition is within the bounds of the seller’s ‘B’ grading. Attached to the case is an aftermarket brown leather strap.

These early Oyster references represent an interesting time in Rolex’s history - pre-dating the release of well-known models like the Submariner, and GMT-Master. The design language varies significantly from more contemporary models, with handsome cushion-shaped cases and oversized crowns.

This particular example has a 34mm stainless steel case with a distinctive corrugated bezel. The white dial is handsomely appointed with blued hands and applied Arabic numerals. The running seconds are displayed in a sub-register a 6 o’clock. Housed inside the case is a manually-wound movement.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.

The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Watch Collecting requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence. However, bidders must satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description, and conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to a bid. Please see our Terms and Conditions for full details.
