SUMMARY

Grand Seiko has carved out an unrivalled reputation for producing interesting dials inspired by nature. Last year, the Japanese watchmaker launched a dressy reference named ‘Omiwatari’ or ‘pathway of the gods’. The dial is finished in an icy blue hue with ridges and ripples inspired by the surface of Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture which freezes over in the winter months. The 38.5mm steel case is hand-polished using Grand Seiko’s ‘zaratsu’ technique. On the undersiude, a sapphire crystal displays the 9R65 Spring Drive calibre. This innovative movement combines a self-winding mainspring with a quartz regulator and electromagnetic brake to control the timekeeping gear train. The result is a level of accuracy unmatched by conventional mechanical movements.
