Sell it with usIn 2018 Omega announced 5 new Speedmaster limited editions to celebrate the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Little did they know back then, how unusual the Tokyo games would prove to be. The watches were only available in Japan and with the Olympics delayed and international travel highly restricted, the number of these watches making it onto the international market is far lower than would be expected.
Of the five limited watches produced, to match the colours of the Olympic rings, the standout is the red bezel version offered here. Dubbed by the Omega collectors’ community ‘Rising Sun’, the connection to the Japanese flag is clear and ties the watch most closely to the Tokyo games. The basis of the watch will be familiar to any Speedmaster aficionado, 42mm asymmetrical case, brushed and polished, external tachymeter scale on the bezel, calibre 1861 hand-wound with the 3-6-9 layout for the chronograph, 3-link steel bracelet. What sets the watch apart is the red bezel, a richer red than found in the national flag, tending towards burgundy, and the deep case back stamping of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic logo. The dial is a frosted grey colour that matches the subdued nature of the bezel and allows for a clear contrast with the red-tipped chronograph seconds hand and the ‘Speedmaster’ logo.
Numbered 1733 of 2020, this example is presented in new, unworn condition with some factory plastic stickers in place on the bracelet. Its condition is within the bounds of the seller’s AAA grading. Included in the sale are the box, warranty card, pictogram card, and certificate of authenticity.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
