Offered by a private collector, this 2021 Cartier Santos is presented with its original box, and accompanied by all of the necessary documentation, including Cartier’s international guarantee. Further additions to the set include a sealed spare rubber strap, strap-removal tool, and spare stainless steel bracelet links. The watch still wears factory-fitted protective coverings around the bezel and strap, and its condition appears within the bounds of the vendor’s ‘AAA’ grading.

With its square 40mm case, the watch is unmistakably a Cartier Santos. However, its iconic design has been given a contemporary edge in-line with modern-day tastes; its black ADLC bezel and slate grey dial provide the watch with a sleek, sporty aesthetic. Despite these contemporary updates, Cartier has not abandoned all of the design features that make the Santos one of its greatest hits. The dial is still earmarked by stylised Roman numerals and railroad minute track. Meanwhile, the bezel and bracelet are still embossed with small, flat-top screws, and the date window is located in its traditional six o’clock position. A steel crown with a faceted black synthetic spinel is located next to the three o’clock hour marker.

Beneath the Santos’ screw-down rear is Cartier’s 1847 calibre. This minimalist chronometer-certified movement was introduced in 2015 and has a power reserve of 42 hours. Despite its elegant lines and sophisticated personality, the Santos is water-resistant to a respectable 100 metres.

The Cartier Santos was introduced in 1904 as the luxury brand’s pilots watch. It takes its name from Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, a personal friend of Cartier founder Louis Cartier.
