While the Speedmaster is synonymous with space travel and NASA certification, it was initially engineered for motorsport. Omega’s latest ‘Racing’ series follows the Speedmaster’s familiar design language but homes in on its terrestrial roots.

With its distinctive minutes track, the ’racing’ dial was first introduced on the Speedmaster in the late 1960s. Since then, it’s appeared in several models, but most recently on the Racing Master Chronometer Chronograph, we see here. The 44.25mm steel case is substantial but sits well on the wrist thanks to its constrained lug profile. Fans of the Speedmaster will notice the flared style lyre lugs with polished bevels along the edges. The pump pushers, also emblematic of the model, are polished, as is the crown.

The bezel is made of Omega’s 18 k ‘Sedna’ gold which blends gold, copper, and palladium and creates a nice contrast to the steel case. Inside the bezel is a ceramic insert with Omega’s ‘Ceragold’ - a method of bonding the gold indices and numerals of the tachymeter scale with the ceramic.

The dial is a matte, granular grey, with applied indices and hands made from ‘Sedna’ gold. The watch uses a two-register design with recessed, metallic ringed sub-dials. This clean and simple layout is thanks to the architecture of calibre 9900, which beats inside. Omega’s flagship automatic chronograph uses a column wheel and vertical clutch system for crisp actuation and reliability. It’s also equipped with all of Omega’s latest tech, including an amagnetic silicon balance spring, co-axial escapement and a 60-hour power reserve.

Purchased in 2020 the watch is in excellent unworn condition and presented on an Omega alligator strap with deployant clasp. Included in the sale are the wooden box in excellent external condition, although with slight damage to the interior, the warranty cards and wallet and the operating instructions booklet.
