The legendary Omega Speedmaster Professional ‘moonwatch’ played an integral part in all six of NASA’s moon landings in the 1960s and 1970s. Omega has long celebrated the watch’s achievements by producing limited and special editions for collectors and fans.

In this 2019 ’Dark Side of the Moon’ model, the Speedmaster’s lunar history is celebrated on a blackened movement that is visible from both sides of the watch. It’s been laser-ablated to represent the moon’s surface. The near side of the moon can be seen through the blackened skeletonised dial, while the far side can be seen through the caseback.

Presented on a perforated black leather strap with a yellow rubber lining, the entire watch is created in black ceramic. Various details have been picked out in yellow, including varnished chronograph hands and a Super-LumiNova tachymeter scale. The specially decorated movement inside is the Omega Calibre 1869, while engravings on the caseback include “Apollo 8, Dec 1968”, “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON”, and “WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE.”

The watch is presented as a full set with its original box, papers, pictogram and guarantee card showing its original sale date in 2019. The watch’s condition is within the bounds of the seller’s A grading.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.

The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Watch Collecting requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence. However, bidders must satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description, and conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to a bid.
