Offered by a private collector, this IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Charles Darwin is being auctioned as a full set. The watch is accompanied by its outer and display box, booklets, cleaning cloth and warranty card. The vendor notes the watch has just been fully serviced by IWC which included a new crystal and polish and is under a 12-month warranty until September 2023.

The current generation of IWC’s Aquatimers feature a distinctive profile thanks to the unique ratcheting system for operating the internal dive bezel. They’re also equipped with sharp downturned lugs, which help the 44mm case wear ergonomically on a range of wrist sizes. This reference is finished in bronze, forming a characterful patina over time.

In true dive watch form, legibility is high thanks to the white and ecru coloured hands and markers against the black dial. A 60-minute chronograph is shown in a sub-register and is easy to actuate thanks to the rubber-clad pushers. The watch is secured to the wrist via a black rubber strap with a clever quick-release system.

Turning the watch over, a solid case back is embellished with a portrait of Charles Darwin. Inside the 300m waterproof case beats IWC’s calibre 89365, an automatic movement with 68 hours of power reserve.

Created to commemorate the life’s work of Charles Darwin and his contributions to evolutionary biology, this Aquatimer reference offers all the utility of a robust diver watch, with IWC’s unique ratcheting bezel system.
