Girard Perregaux’s iconic Laureato was first launched in 1975 and was named after the Italian film, ‘The Graduate’. The original Laureato was famed for its integrated bracelet with a slightly tonneau-shaped case and a bezel which would develop into the octagonal shape, beloved of the line. These are touches still much in evidence with contemporary models.

This 2019 Laureato derives from the Earth to Sky range, following the same idea of the deep blacks and vibrant blues we think of when we visualise deep space. The 42mm case and bracelet are ceramic with a thickness of 10.93mm, protecting the movement with 100m water resistance. A triple deployant clasp made from titanium secures the watch on the wrist.

The inner workings of the watch are where the magic really happens. The GP01800-1041 movement in this watch is made in-house out of 173 individual components and 25 jewels. The balance wheel oscillates at 4Hz, providing the watch with a delicate balance between accuracy and longevity, with a power reserve of 54 hours. Although technically impressive, it would be hard to deny that the real point of this movement is to look show-stopping, both on the front and the back.

The plates and bridges here have been cut away and coloured, providing high contrast with the gold colouring of various components. The piece retains strong legibility thanks to the large hands which differ in colour to the rest of the dial.

This example is in excellent condition throughout and is complete with box and papers.
