SUMMARY
The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms was initially developed with elite French divers and is both iconic and incredibly important in the history of dive watches. Launched in 1953, it was the first to incorporate a uni-directional rotating bezel - beating out the Rolex Submariner. The Fifty Fathoms was reintroduced into the catalogue in 2007 blending contemporary engineering with vintage inspiration.
The Chronographe Flyback Quantième Complet represented here retains the utilitarianism of a dive watch, rated with a 300m of water resistance, but elevates the wearing experience with several complications, consisting of a complete calendar, flyback chronograph, and a moon phase.
Powered by Blancpain’s calibre 66BF8 which is based on Frédéric Piguet’s calibre 1185, an integrated self-winding column wheel chronograph with a vertical clutch and one of the thinnest self-winding chronographs in the world. The calibre 66BF8 is visible through the see-through caseback and features a 21K gold oscillating weight resembling a nautilus. There is no need for an adjusting tool since the wearer can use their hands to set the calendar using one of the four under-lug correctors.
All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
Any watch not covered by a current sales or service warranty should be considered as potentially requiring a service, even if in full working order on the date of purchase.
