The Black Bay 58 (ref. 79030N) has been called ‘the perfect watch.’ It is certainly one of the greatest dive watches in recent memory. The reference was introduced in 2018 and is based on historic Tudor Submariner models, specifically the ‘Big Crown’ reference 7924 released in 1958 and the Snowflake that first came out in 1969.

The Black Bay 58 takes its retro-vintage inspiration a step further than the 70922R models because at 39 mm it is closer to the original Big Crown than previous iterations of the Black Bay.

One of the most obvious changes the 58 brings to the Black Bay line is the introduction of a 39 mm diameter stainless steel case (the bezel is 39.5 mm and hangs over the case 0.5 mm). This is a good thing, making the 58 the smallest Black Bay with a unidirectional bezel offered to date. Perhaps less obvious is the new case thickness which has been significantly reduced in comparison to the full-size 41 mm Black Bay line.

With a depth of just 12 mm compared to the standard 41 mm Black Bay (14.8 mm thick [2016 and later]), the new 58’s depth is one of its most impressive qualities as it utilises an all-new, thinner, caliber MT 5402 movement. Yet despite the vintage styling the bracelet is truly robust and feels very well made, like something from Tudor’s parent company: Rolex.

Let’s be honest though, it’s the stunning matte dial that’s the star of the show here...the gilt writing, minute track, hands and indices, really set this piece apart from the crowd. It’s certainly a perfect watch for us.

The watch is presented for sale with case, caseback and buckle in excellent condition, save a few minor marks which would polish out if so desired. This piece is sold with all booklets, inner and outer boxes, strap, papers and accessories. A lovely example of a star watch.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.

The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading.
