The 5711/1A was launched in 2006 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus and has since become the most desirable luxury steel sports watch on the planet. This meteoric rise has been further exacerbated by Patek Philippe's decision to discontinue the model, not before a short run with an olive green dial, and then finally a very limited collaboration with Tiffany & Co., the first of which achieved a startling US$6.5 million at auction.

The Nautilus has changed very little since it was first launched in the 70s. Originally designed by Gerald Genta, it features a rounded octagonal case and an integrated bracelet. The dial of the 5711/1A is finished in a blue tone, with distinctive horizontal ridges emblematic of the model. The hours are marked by batons filled with Super-LumiNova, and a date aperture is positioned at 3 o’clock. Turning the watch over, a sapphire case back reveals the in-house calibre 324 SC. This self-winding movement is expertly finished with Côtes de Genève across the bridges and 21K gold winding rotor.

The integrated bracelet is satin-finished, with polished intermediary links and a fine bevel that extends from the case and down the edge of each link. It’s secured to the wrist via a double deployant clasp.

This 2018 example is a one-owner watch and was purchased by the seller directly from a Patek Philippe authorised dealer. It's part of a large private collection stored carefully and only taken out for occasional photographing. The watch shows no signs of wear and its condition is within the bounds of the seller’s AA grading. The watch is accompanied by everything that was provided by the dealer including the wooden box, cardboard outer box, certificate of origin, booklets, all links and a swing tag, In addition, the seller was presented with a Patek travel case and a pair of gloves for careful handling of his collection, and these will be included with the sale.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.

The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading.
