Sell it with usThis 2018 Panerai 1950 Tourbillon comes as a full set, and is being auctioned with its original display box and user documents, including its user guide and official limited edition certificate. Also included in the set is a spare brown leather strap and strap-removal tool. There are a few very light marks on the case. Nonetheless, the watch fits within the bounds of the vendor’s ‘A’ grading.
Designed as a tribute to Galileo, “Lo Scienziato” is a true masterclass in engineering. This striking watch is fashioned from titanium powder, which is 3D printed using the Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technique, meaning its hollow 47mm case is lighter and stronger than one traditionally milled from heavier metals. The bezel and the reference’s trademark winding crown and safety lock are equally as avant-garde in their production and are produced using Carbotech, a carbon fibre-based composite. The case is attached to a tasteful navy blue calfskin strap with contrasting white stitching.
Powering this remarkable watch is Panerai’s P.2005/T calibre, which is skeletonised and features titanium bridges and plates that lower the weight of this movement by 35% of the standard Luminor skeleton watch. The lattice dial shows the hours, minutes, and second time zone on the central hands, with the power reserve and an AM/PM indicator located at the three and nine o’clock positions. Meanwhile, an innovative 30-second tourbillon rotates at 90 degrees to the axis of the balance. To underline how much of a technical powerhouse “Lo Scienziato” is, the watch weighs just 41 grams and has a power reserve of six days despite its complexity.
Introduced in 2016, “Lo Scienziato” remains one of the most technical and surprising creations produced by Panerai.
