ABOUT THIS WATCH
- Launched in 2012 as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1962 Mercury-Alpha 8 mission, this Speedmaster “First Omega in Space” is a faithful and modern take on the CK2998 worn on the wrist of Wally Schirra
- This numbered edition has grown in popularity in recent years, particularly since being discontinued in 2020
- The watch reprises the classic looks of older Speedmasters with a smaller 39.7mm case and straight lugs
- This 21st-century tribute features the same black dial, black bezel and stainless steel case with symmetrical lugs as the watch that inspired it
- As a further tribute to the original, both Baton and Alpha-style hands are used
- As a final touch, the stainless steel case back is also embossed with the original 1962 seahorse medallion
- Housed inside the case is Omega's calibre 1861 chronograph
- This manually-wound movement is equipped with a 48-hour power reserve
